Over The Waves

I took my first trip overseas to Vienna Austria in May of 2007. It was my first time on a plane and my first time in a place where, for the most part, people did not speak English or French. It was also the longest time I'd spent away from John since our relationship began in 2001. In short, I was very lonely. I wrote the music sitting on my friends sofa bed in what she described as her "World War II ghetto charm" apartment. The lyrics were written when I got back to Canada.
Over the Waves
I've been sitting here drinking coffee
Nothing left to do but wonder
Where you are
Much too far away
Nothing left to do but ponder
This big blue sky we're under
We're all so small
I feel the weight of the world on me
I went over the waves to try
To free myself from my chains
Oh what a surprise to find
It is you who has the key
I've been thinking let's start over
I was young but now I've grown and
Where you are is where I've found
I need to be
I've been playing the game so long
I didn't know that I could win
I think I'll come in from the cold now
Where the warmth has always been
