Girls In Front performing with Sarah Greene and Kele Fleming

  • Saving Gigi 859 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON Canada (map)

kele fleming, the founder of the early 90s Vancouver indie pop band Hazel Motes – which, along with acts like Lava Hay and the Grapes of Wrath, helped define the city’s sound for that era – has a full-time career in higher education now, so it’s always a breath of fresh air when she carves out time from that career to show us where her creative muse has been carrying her lately.
Never has that been more true than with her new release, no static, which sees kele combining her literate folk rock sensibilities with the Baroque pop stylings of Ron Yamauchi

Lara Kroeker builds foundations of familiar and discovers new sounds by looping violin and vocals to build song structures and the results are sounds of lush orchestral madness. She has played and toured across Canada and The US with indie groups Attics and Cellars, Sparrow (North America 2007), The Beauticians (Folk Festivals), The Insomniacs, The Mudlarks. She played with K-OS backup on the George Strombolopolis show, played festival stages with the legendary Odetta, performed on Canada Live on CBC Radio 2 with Attics and Cellars and in the Vancouver Philharmonic.

Sarah Greene writes many of her sparse, country-tinged songs while biking around Toronto. Her songs have an endearing vulnerability to them, delivered in a voice that recalls Judee Sill or Karen Dalton. You may just walk away finding your heart is a little cracked open.

Girls In Front is one half of the Collette Savard band...the female half. Composed of Rebecca Campbell, Megan Worthy and Collette Savard, three talented performers who have joined forces to bring you beautiful original music and choice covers. Their vocal blend alone makes them worth hearing but their musicianship and songwriting prowess make for a performance not to be missed.
